@Fearchar The problem Scotland has it is limited to what it can enforce without the UK governments approval. A huge constraint! And a massive argument for independence. Our response could have been swifter if we had the powers to do so.

There has been an unmistakably concerted effort to take Alex Salmond out of the political equation. A project which goes far beyond the bounds of even the most Machiavellian of political machinations.

No question about the timing or magnitude of the response Covid-19 makes any sense because there is only one sensible answer. The response had to be instant and total.

Why did Nicola Sturgeon commit to the Section 30 process? Was she unaware of the fact that it was both a dead end and a trap?

The setting up of an independent expert group separate from the UK Government, which will at the moment “supplement” the UK-wide expert advice but could ultimately lead to different policies being taken in Scotland, sounds like […]The post The work dilemma...

+ScotGov Too little, too late. Scotland's government should not have been dragged on the coat-tails of the UK Government, as we know how ineffective it is. The examples of Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea should all have been noted and followed. In particular, Taiwan is willing to offer advice: all anyone has to do is ask.

The lockdown is on. The government has finally done what should have happened weeks ago. Now we are running to catch-up, and the government has to run much faster. Both governments, I should say. The Scottish Government has acted in unity with the UK Government, and as such has also been utterly inadequate so far. Without doubt […]The post Lockdown: Why citizens must hold...

+PeterBell Actually, the source, the People's Republic of China is increasing its infringements of Taiwanese airspace, in a bellicose gesture towards the democracy it had hoped to swallow up.

It is not only in Downing Street where the worry of dealing with a major public health threat will be laced with a vein of relief. I don't for a moment suppose that Nicola Sturgeon will dwell on the fact, but fact it remains that the coronavirus outbreak is politically very convenient.

Comments such as Keith Brown's and the kind of headline The National makes of it, serve only to encourage dangerous complacency and promote the ludicrous notion that we need only wait and independence will come to us.
