stewartb So the care home visited by Anas Sarwar MSP is being used to justify his claim of care homes at ‘breaking point’? If so, this company’s situation must have changed radically since 22 December 2022. This is the date Applecross Nursing Home Limited submitted its Annual Financial Statements for the year ending 31 March 2022 to Companies House....

The above report and headline was posted today (19 April) based on comments made by Forbes in March, three weeks ago or more ago, ‘in March‘, before the First Minister announced his priority policies for action which have been described as ‘bold’ and ‘progressive’ (see link below). The above fact is entirely concealed from the reader with only the misleading...

Blood sports have no place in a modern society.

Pleased to attend the launch of League Against Cruel Sports Business Without Blood Sports pledge - a new initiative which will see companies commit to doing business in a way that does not support or enable cruel sports like fox hunting.

Plenty of praise for the Scottish Government’s Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Bill which will end illegal...

Another outstanding speech by ALBA Depute Leader, Kenny MacAskill MP.

"A TerraWatt is 1 billion KiloWatts. The average household in Scotland uses 4000 kW per annum.

Scotland is sending 35 tW south and by 2030 base anticipate Scotland will be providing 124 tW. That’s 124 billion kW of electricity and our people are freezing as I speak!

People are unable to power their homes. Our energy is...

Great cartoon in the HeraldScotland following the Tory Chancellor’s tax raid on our local whisky industry yesterday - now a staggering 75% tax on the average bottle. This is bad news for Speyside where up to 60% of Scotch is produced but I guess all Tory Ministers in Westminster see when they look north is £ signs! 🥃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The Labour party has selected former MP. Blairite minister ultra-unionist Douglas Alexander as their candidate for the next Westminster General Election.

This is the same Douglas Alexander who had to repay £12 600 of expenses he had claimed for a building at his home he was renting out and £2000 he claimed after a fire, claimed because he was underinsured.

He also claimed £30000 for...

stewartb I’d like to share a recent article published by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS – see below). Reading it triggered the thought that it must be a horrendously difficult ongoing task for a Scottish Government to keep abreast of – and ensure appropriate modelling of – the impact of Westminster’s tax and benefit changes. These changes not only affect the Scottish...

stewartb Sometimes one can juxtapose economic forecasts that should convince voters to take such judgements when expressed with certainty with a large pinch of salt. Forecasts associated with oil & gas especially fall into this category. For interest – and ‘amusement’ – here are quotes from two articles published in the online magazine, oilprice.com . Headline, 7 September 2017: ‘The...
